PETER "PUNCH ON" LYALL #14
Unfortunately one of Carnarvon's favourite Speedway sons won't be racing on his home track this weekend when the WASCF Super Sedan State Title rumbles into town.
It would be unbearable to be in Peter Lyall's head space this Friday and Saturday night, as he watches all the action from the pits bank instead of the drivers seat.
He would of been the sentimental, if not the outright favourite from 23 nominations to win the title this season.
Extremely lucky to have come out unharmed from a major racing accident at Albany Speedway in early March, time has now ran out for Lyall to have his previously immaculate Mazda RX8 ready for this huge event.
As his car sits sadly in the shed, he tells me that he would love to be out there, but due to work and family commitments he knew he wouldn't have enough time to rebuild it back to his desirable race standard in time for the Title.
"I would rather take my time and do it properly, knowing that if I'm involved in another crash, I'll be able to walk away from that too." Peter Perfect said. "I'll get to it on the off season."
Peter isn't the only family member to be a rev head, wife Paula and their 2 son's, Damon and Trent all race speedway as well.
Not to mention Peter's brother Stephen and brother in law, Jim Andreoli. It's a real family affair!
Orh well, there's always next year Pete!!

TRAVIS "STEELY" JACKSON #17
He started racing as a 15 year old Junior in a box Cortina because his Dad, Kiwi, thought it would be good for him and his younger brother Blake. And he was right!
"I don't know what I'd be doing if I didn't race speedway. I'd be pretty scratchy and drunk all the time I reakon." Travis told me.
Apart from work, as the Service Manager at Carnarvon Motor Group (his major sponsor), being a Dad to young Chase, the odd drink or two and a few games of Corporate Lawn Bowls now and then, Trav's life is pretty much consumed up of Speedway.
Whether he's building engines, fixing panels, racing or travelling to the next meet, it's pretty full on.
What he likes most about racing is the adrenalin of course, meeting new and old friends, the cold beers after and the places it takes them to.
However, the travelling can also be the flip side of it sometimes as well. Alot of time is spent on the road as they have travelled all over Australia to race and will continue to for a while yet.
This has been Travis's 1st season in the Supers ranks after quiet a successful career in Modifieds for 10 years.
He shocked Rotary fans when he jumped teams and purchased a well built Giancola V8 Chev. He loves the instant horse power it puts out, but admits that he still has a soft spot for Rotary's.
Travis is happy with his debut Super's season and rates himself as an average chance this weekend.
His judgement since wearing seeing glasses in the last 12 months has really opened his eye's.
Travis's prediction for this years title is #81 Dusty Higgs.

BLAKE "WILDMAN" JACKSON #41
Is the younger brother of fellow Super Sedan driver and rival, Travis.
But Blake has certainly made a name for himself in the Speedway circuit and not only for this driving abilities either.
He is the Carnarvon Speedway Club's Vice President and has put alot of his expertise as a wood butcher into the growing infrastructure of our club.
Blake is always campaigning for drivers to come to Carnarvon when he travels away racing.
And is also known for his antics off the track as well as on. So many stories there!
He started out in a Mini, needing wooden blocks on the pedals for him to reach.
Then he progressed to the mighty Dato in the Street Stocks, and then after this is when the orange Falcon's came into play.
Currently he is racing a Mazda RX8, one of only 3 in the competition.
Super Sedans predominantly has been an exclusive V8 class, that was before Lyall started cookin' their pasta with his rice burner a few years back.
Although Blake has yet to get the right set up in this car, it may of been a blessing in disguise when he blew his engine two weeks ago in Albany. Hopefully we'll be seeing flashes of orange and chrome around Carnarvon Speedway track this weekend with a new motor under the bonnet.
This is Jackson's second season in the Super's.
Blake's prediction for the weekend is that the beers will be cold!
