Speedway Back on Track for 2010
By Lisa Ladhams
Last Saturday night saw perfect weather conditions for the opening of the 2010 racing season at Carnarvon Speedway.
While numbers were good for the Double Points meeting, the fields are only going to swell across the divisions.
We welcomed to the track new comers in Kathryn Harper in the Juniors who drove very well in her debut.
Club President, Barry Mason in the Street Stocks gave the crowd something to talk about, when he nearly fenced the Fire Stone Warrior under the judge’s box.
Off Road racer, Peter Barrett has switched codes and did very well in the Modified Production class and looks to be someone to watch.
Street Stock WA#2 Daniel Pidala had four wins from four starts, but not with out some classy driving from Kane Munro nearly claiming one of them.
Blake Jackson in his RX8, the only Super Sedan for the night, started a lap down in the Modified Production class, which also included 2 Karratha drivers to the field.
Wayne Mogg has made a great return to driving after more than a 20 year break, to join his 2 son’s in the Modified division..
Kim Jolly was noticeably absent as he was racing away at a State round.
So to Peter Lyall and family, who were at Kwinana Motorplex supporting the Super Sedans Summer Series.
Jace Kempton got some very valuable points on the board, with four wins at Double Points in the Juniors.
Sprintcar’s had a Karratha driver thrown in to the mix, but it was Carnarvon local, Burkie Holla who dominated with four wins. Stephen Lyall and Jim Andreoli provided some good racing as well.
The next race meet is the Street Stock Perpetual, Saturday week, the 20th with racing starting at 7pm.
So get your backside trackside and we’ll Catch ya on Clay @ Carnarvon Speedway.
