Three Carnarvon Speedway drivers and their pit crews made the 1000km round trip to Geraldton City Speedway on the 20/10/2007 to compete against some tough competition.
Burkie Holla in his latest complete project, #22 Sprintcar, thrilled the crowd with his fearless driving to take a win in one of his heats and also the feature in the very last turn of the race.
Holla hopes to race in Geraldton three more times before our season starts here on the 2nd of February 2008.
Also racing impressively in the Sprintcar division is exCarnarvonite, Carolyn Armstrong, daughter of well known driver Wayne Armstrong.
Carnarvon had two representative's in the last Western 1000 Street Stock Shootout round for the 2007 series. It has attracted over seventy competitors for the season from all over WA, which has run a round at each at Carnarvon, Shark Bay, Pithara, Ellenbrook, Kellerberrin, Northam, Bunbury and finishing in Geraldton.
Kane Munro and Gerard Clarke were up against some of the states best with the likes of current WA1 Matt Amato, Mick Hamon and previous national champion, Jamie Oldfield.
Munro's 'Never Give Up' attitude rewarded him with a first and two seconds in his heats to see him start out of position three, behind Oldfield and Amato in the 30 lap feature. Unfortunately he DNF (did not finish) after popping a tyre half way through the race.
Clarke drove steadily to secure starting 10th on the grid from fourteen drivers. He managed a creditable 7th over the finishing line.
Jamie Oldfield from Ellenbrook, started on pole and went on to win the Feature and the series for the third consecutive time.
Daniel Pidala who had previously put in some klms to this series was unable to attend due to work commitments.
