Speedway fans certainly weren’t disappointed with the Beaurepaires Street Stock Ashes Saturday night, witnessing some great thrills and spills on trackside.
The track looked quite water-logged due to the rain cyclone Nicholas brought and all cars were slip sliding all over the track, but after some wheel packing the track looked set for racing.
Rhonda Fear made her racing debut in the Junior division on Saturday night and looks as though she will be a strong competitor in future meets. It was also great to see Rochelle Sullivan back racing after an injury kept her off the track. Allan Harper had a great night of racing and came away with a win.
Travis Jackson in Modified’s seemed to have sorted out his car troubles from last meet and is looking strong. Kody Brown, from Broome, provided some tough competition for our local boys.
The Sprintcars were absolutely flying with five cars on track which made for some strong competition. Burke Holla came away with some convincing wins with Stephen Lyall consistently making top three in all heats.
Kyne Hill also made his debut in Street Stocks, showing of a nice looking Holden, finishing all races with no car trouble. Tara Mason wasn’t so lucky in one of her heats by hitting the wall hard, damaging the front of her car, fortunately though came away with no injuries. Leo Brooks had an unlucky night repeatedly hitting the wall an unable to finish. Daniel Pidala was defending his title of the Street Stock Ashes Perpetual Trophy, he dominated all heats and started the Final in pole position.
Due to quite a few car casualties the final was down to a field of 8! Daniel had opened quite a lead by lap four with Wade Mason and Glen Harper battling out for minor positions, however with Dylan Mogg spinning out, a yellow flag was waved and the drivers had to reform. Wade then hits the windrow and drops back a few positions and Lance Root makes it to 3rd place with Gerard Clarke eager to overtake. Nevertheless the night belonged to Daniel Pidala who looked in control all night and took out the trophy once again. Glen came in second with Wade fighting hard and regaining third place. Congratulations Daniel!!
Next race meet is the Junior Perpetual Trophy sponsored by Autopro on the 15th March;
we hope to “catch you on clay at the Carnarvon Speedway.
