Well it's all done and dusted for the 2008/09 season's racing at Carnarvon Speedway after the meet on Saturday night.

The cooler weather may have been the reason that the regular large crowd stayed away, but it was red hot racing on the track, with the inclusion of some fun events.
Another perfectly prepared track by the curators saw great driving and fast times all night.
Sprintcar driver, Burkie Holla was on fire, breaking the 14 second barrier with a 13.986 seconds for a lap. He also had 3 wins from 3 starts for the night.

Brother and sister, the Johnstone duo from Geraldton was a welcome inclusion to the Junior division, however they were no match for the local lads.

Damon Lyall had two wins for the night. One of them being their feature race, which happened to be the last race as a Junior competitor for rival, Alan Harper. Harper put up a great fight to finish a creditable second.
Great sportsmanship was showen when Harper was presented with the checkered flag and did 2 laps of honour as he was farewelled from the Junior division to the warm applause of the crowd.

In the Street Stocks, Blake Jackson had borrowed Clinton John's car for the night and had 2 seconds in his heats. Daniel Pidala had 2 wins and one a piece went to Leo Brooks and Wade Mason.
Paula Lyall broke an axel early in the night and had to retire from any further events.

Tom Parry was absent from his normal division, however he entertained the crowd at interval and after the last race by doing some pretty impressive burnouts on the pad.

Lance Root finally came good on the last meet with 2 seconds in his heats and becoming the inaugural winner of the newly named "Laurie Ladhams Le Mans Feature."

This event was decided by the committee to dedicate the race to club life member Laurie Ladhams, who sadly passed away 6 months ago.

This race was a "Le Mans" start which sees the participating cars line up on a slight angle on the infield, strapped in with their engines running. A nominated runner then has to run across the infield of the track to bang on the car loud enough to let the driver know to take off.

But there is a bit of a twist with this particular start as it was a reverse grid, where the driver with the most points for the night starts from the furtherest back.

The race commenced with Laurie's wife, Lorraine being the starter and dropped the green flag.
It was a mad dash as all of the cars tried to get off to a great start, which only resulted in a restart as there was a pile up on the first lap.

This saw the retirement of a few cars due to the damage caused during the bingle.
A Le Mans restart again saw yet another bingle forcing out even more cars. So the Chief Steward decided to restart the race in the more traditional way with only 5 cars remaining.

Lance Root finished the 15 lap feature in front of Wade Mason and Kyne Hill.
Two other exciting events for the evening was the Ladies race and a Mechanics race.
Six cars lined up on the grid for the Ladies event, which were either girlfriends, wives or mothers of the drivers that were giving it a go to see what all the fuss is about.

Roxanne Franklin jumped out straight away to take and hold the lead for a while until Paula Mogg made her move to take the win. Sandy Mason in car #88 finished in third position.
The Mechanics race saw the experienced Ian Lester take the flag first in front of Wayne Mogg and Barry Mason.
Some sponsors of the cars then had some track time to themselves.
All in all it was a great night to cap off another successful season.

This Saturday night is the clubs Wind-up & Presentations, which everyone is invited to attend.
Catch on Clay @ Carnarvon Speedway around Nov/Dec.
