Carnarvon Speedway News By Lisa:

Crowd numbers were down last Saturday at Carnarvon Speedway's Points meet.

But this didn't deter the drivers as they were all trying to add valuable club points to their tally, now that we are coming to the close of our season. All the regular divisions were racing, but with a twist.

After having two wins from two starts in the Street Stocks, Daniel Pidala tried his luck in the Modified division. He definitely held his own and finished a creditable 2nd and 3rd in the more underpowered car. The recently crowned Modified WA1 Shane Brittain had a DNF, however still finished with 3 wins. Travis Jackson didn't have the best of night's after he missed two heats due to loosing his right rear tyre after the wheel nuts snapped off his RX7. In Kim Jolly's absence, his mechanic, Ian 'Cockroach' Lester got back behind the wheel to try and iron out some set up issues of the yellow Falcon.

A welcome inclusion to the line up was Owen Scott from Karratha driving a Production car, who will be back in a fortnight's time to compete in our North West Championships. Noticeably absent in the Street Stocks, Paula Lyall in the trusty Sigma, however a surprise come back by Leo Brooks was welcomed. Brooks didn't seem to of lost any of his track time confidence, finishing with two seconds before blowing up his gearbox. Acting Club President, Blake Jackson was just happy to be back on track any way he could in the borrowed Wade Mason car, while waiting on the finishing touches of his Super Sedan.

Club Secretary, Tara Mason had a few incidentals throughout the night with a bent steering arm and lack of gearbox oil after a kiss on the pit corner wall. Kane Munro is hoping that his fuel injected engine is back and raring to go after blowing up yet another 'Taxi' motor. Tom Parry's 83 car might just of seen her last race, but he is already planing a new car for next season. Some one else that is planing next season is Clinton John, who is in the process of building an EL Falcon to return to the Street Stock division. John got a reminder of racing when he put himself behind the wheel of Lance Root's Falcon in one of the Mechanics race's.

Barry Mason, driving his son's car was the outright winner of the Mechanics Division after taking two wins in the added events. Simon Lawson who is in training to become the Pit Marshall for next season, really enjoyed himself in his first ever drive in a race car while Scotty Mills's dad, Jim had a taste of what it's really like on the track too. Hot Shot's Shane Brittain and Daniel Pidala did a car swap of their prized Commodores and Travis Jackson looked cute in Rychelle Sullivan's little Charade while his brother Blake looked pretty in pink behind the wheel of Tara Mason's 66 car, also competing in the Mechanics Race.

After working all day on their cars, unfortunately both Burkie Holla and Stephen Lyall we not able to take part in the nights events. Jim Andreoli took advantage of their absence and had 4 wins from four starts over youngster Andrew Pedler. Twenty year old Pedler from Exmouth is certainly showing signs of improvement, throwing his Sprintcar into the corners alot harder, rather than driving through them as his back ground Go-Carting techniques would suggest. He will be in good company next meeting with all of our local Dirt Track Cowboys along with 'Mighty' Mick Doble from Margaret River and ex Carnarvonite Wayne Armstrong contesting the Perpetual Trophy. Fantastic racing once again in the Smarter than Smoking Juniors Division, with two a piece for the night to Damon Lyall and Rychelle Sullivan.

Excellent side by side racing, great control of pressure and some fast times has been shown to everyone by all of these school kids. Not only on the track, but complementing one an other after the race has been run and won is such good Sportsmanship by them all. And most of all, they're having a ball. Well folks, there's only one more meet left on our 2007 calender, the North West Championships which includes the Stocksville 30 Lapper. This promises to be a Huge weekend starting with drinks and a Driver's draw at the Troppicana Tavern on Friday the Ist of June and then all the racing action from 7pm on the Saturday and Sunday night's.

Nominations have been received from all around the state, from Broome to Albany and everywhere in between. So make sure your Backside is Trackside and we'll Catch ya on Clay at Carnarvon Speedway for the last time in 2007.
