The Sprintcar Spectacular had everyone on the edge of their seats on Saturday night at Carnarvon Speedway.
The clay had only just recovered from the Super Sedan the fortnight before, but the well prepared track held up a dream for the wide tyred Things with Wings.

Our two locals Burke Holla and Stephen Lyall had some very stiff competition with eight visiting drivers coming to contest the Perpetual Trophy.

One of those drivers was Carolyn Armstrong-Stotrioff from Geraldton, previously Carnarvon. The Armstrong name well known to the Sprintcar division and Carnarvon Speedway. Her father, Wayne was the president of the club for a few years and had travelled extensively competiting successfully around Australia.
Sadly, Wayne was tragically killed in a road accident ironically on the way to a race meet a few years ago.
After some consideration, Caroline, the youngest of her siblings decided to continue racing with the support of her mother, new husband and family.

She certainly showed her skills, winning 2 of her heats and rather comfortably.
Carolyn was also did the third fastest lap for the night, behind local Burkie Holla who did a 14.196 second lap, according to the transponder system.

The crowd was wowed with the hard and fast driving from all drivers, especially when the two locals came together, but it was visitor Steve Crabb, in a borrowed car that took home the trophy, with sponsor Burkie Holla 2nd, Rob Stevens 3rd and Stephen Lyall 4th in the 20 lap feature.

At the presentations up at the club house alot of the drivers were extremely happy with the superb track and vowed that they'd be back to take part in the NorWest Championships in a fortnights time.
The support races  from the Juniors and the Streeties we also very entertaining.
The Juniors once again provided great racing and sportsmanship.

There was an double influx to the division this week as 3 drivers from Geraldton came to race. While Damon Lyall was absent, Jace Kempton did an excellent job in his debut to speedway.
The outertowners certainly put up a great challenge, however the home track advantage got both local lad's, Trent Lyall and Alan Harper over the line first in the heats with Harper winning the 15 lap feature and Lyall Did Not Finish after a bingle with Kempton during the last race.

Good numbers of nine in the Street Stocks made it interesting and saw one a piece to Glenn Harper, Leo Brooks and Daniel Pidala, with the veteran Harper taking out their 15 lap Final.

Make sure your put Saturday 31st of May and Sunday 1st of June in your Social calender for the Norwest Championships.
