Last Saturday Carnarvon hosted the 2008 North West Championships, one of their biggest events for the season which saw drivers travel from all over the state to compete in their division. The night was action packed and included an array of divisions, including sprintcar’s, modifieds, productions, street stocks, juniors, super sedans and the crowd’s favourite the midgets. With over fifty drivers, the night was sure to be full of thrills and spills.
Dylan Mogg sure didn’t disappoint the crowd when he rolled his car several times in turn one. Fortunately Dylan was not hurt in the incident and gave the crowd a big wave when he eventually got out of the car, to which the crowd responded with great cheer. Sadly Dylan was unable to compete for the remaining of the night. Local boy Travis Jackson took out the top position for modifieds with Kim Jolly taking out second position and Rob fraser in third.
Productions saw lady driver Debbie Hall take to the track and put on a great show with some hard core racing, unfortunately not able to make it to first position but drove brilliantly to place her third overall. Greg Robinson from Shark Bay took out pole position with Jason Whitehead coming in second.
Local boys took out the top two placing’s for the junior division with Damon Lyall taking out the chequered flag and Allan Harper coming a close second. Hayden Norman also from shark bay came in, in third position.
Former Australian and Western Australian Street Stock Champion Jamie Olfield took out the Stocksville division over local hero WA # 1 Daniel Pidala in a ripper of a race. The race was described as one of the best stocksville’s ever!
Congratulation to former speedway president, Burke Holla who won the sprintcar division. He showed the crowd just how happy he was with his win with some big “donuts” out on the track.
Overall, a great night out on the track.
This Saturday will be the last night race meet of the season and should definitely not be missed. There will be a burnout competition ($200 prize money) kids car rides, Le Mans start for last stocky race, one on one challenges, mechanics race and sponsors drives. So grab your family and get your backside trackside down at the Carnarvon Speedway.
