Carnarvon Speedway Club kicked off their 2008 race season on Saturday 2nd February with the club looking bigger and better than ever with new president Barry Mason, new volunteers, new drivers, new cars and a revamped track.

The season started on a high with our very own Damon Lyall taking out third place in the National Junior Title. Congratulations Damon on a massive achievement! Damon is currently shining within the club by also winning the Carnarvon Speedway Junior Perpetual sponsored by Autopro. The club saw visiting drivers come from Perth, Geraldton, Newman and Shark Bay. However a field of thirteen was no match for the young super star Damon placing first for the third year in a row. Damon is currently looking promising on taking out the checkered Flag with the Smarter Than Smoking WASCF Junior State Title on home soil held on the 25th and 26th April.

The Street Stock Perpetual Sponsered by Beaurepairs was held on the 23rd of February and spectators saw some competitive racing by all drivers and with fierce competitions there will be car casualties. Tara Mason hit the wall hard coming into turn three and wrote off the front of her car, luckily escaping injury and Leo Brooks had an unlucky night repeatedly hitting the wall an unable to finish. With the field down to eight drivers Daniel was in pole position and ready to defend his title from the previous year which he succeeded to do despite hard racing from second place getter Glen Harper and Wade Mason coming in third.

Carnarvon Speedway Club is looking forward to hosting the V8 Super Sedan Classic sponsored by Carnarvon Motor Group on the 12th April which will see local drivers taking on some of the best drivers form around the state. Certainly not a night to be missed!

Also looking forward, The North West Championships will be held in conjunction with the Street Stock Stocksville this year on the 7th June in Carnarvon due to the Street Stock State title being held the same weekend in Broome. In previous years the meet was held over the Labour Day weekend; however this year the event will run just the one night on the Saturday.

Lastly a big thank you to the volunteers who unselfishly give up their time week in and week out to ensure the Carnarvon Speedway Club is a success. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated.

We hope to  “Catch you on clay at Carnarvon Speedway”
