Our Annual Family Fun Night was a hit with the kids at Carnarvon Speedway last Saturday night.
After Round One of racing, saw approximately 30 children 12 & Under compete in 3 different age brackets in the Push Bike Races.
The winner of the mixed 6 & Under was Kai Jackson. Taking the honours for the 6-9 year olds was William Faithfull. And the long legs of Maddison Carson definitely helped her cross the line first in the 9-12 age division.
All competitors received an icy pole & "Smarter than Smoking" sticker and was told that they were all champs for taking part.
After Round 2 of racing the kids, big & small were lined up again to do a couple of laps with some of the Street Stock drivers in their race cars.
On their return, they were offered beautifully ripened local banana's donated by the Sweeter Banana Co-op.
Also the FESA volunteers circled the track throwing out bags of lollies to the crowd.
A light water and track grade during interval saw the tempo of racing in rounds 3 & 4 pick up dramatically.
Sprintcar driver, Stephen Lyall was on fire, winning all 4 starts with some lightning times.
Super Sedans saw the Jackson brothers racing each other, with the exclusion of Peter Lyall, who was away racing a round of the SSSR Summer Series in Albany.
However, the news came through that Lyall was extremely lucky to escape unharmed after a major racing accident, which totalled his once immaculate RX8.
Alan Harper was back on track in the Junior division and had a clean sweep for the night.
Young Jack McAuley travelled down from Karratha to race his front wheel drive Charade in the Juniors also.
Harper & McAuley were as surprised as the spectators when they were instructed to STOP! mid race due to a small kangaroo jumping around the track.
Skippy pleased most of the crowd, visiting them where they sat next to the fence, trying to get out.
Not clear on how the little Aussie Animal got on to the track, it was escorted out by club officials via a large open pit gate to the applause of the spectators.
The Junior Lyall brothers didn't race this meet, but will be back out there next fortnight.
Hopefully joined by a female new comer to the sport as well.
Another Karratha driver in Ben Wridley raced his Street Stock debut on our track that night and indicated that it could become a regular occurrence.
Street Stock's were initially split into 2 heats with 11 cars in this division.
Leo Brooks's return saw him earn a 1st, 2nd, 3rd & a 4th for his efforts. Daniel Pidala had 2 wins and 2 thirds and young Wade Mason also steady & consistent with 2 seconds and 2 fourths. Mason's #88 Commodore was extremely loud after dropping his muffler mid way through a race and was sent ROF for causing a restart when officials stopped the race to clear the track.
Not so lucky, Tara Mason didn't race after breaking a weld in her #66 Falcon's diff very early in the night.
Hopefully Stockie driver, Kyne Hill will increase the Holden population and get's his Commodore back on the track for the Street Stock Ashes Perpetual Trophy on the 21st of March, along with all of our local and visiting drivers.
Another brother duo has been welcomed to the club with older sibling Zane Mogg joining his little, big bro, Dylan in the Modified division.
Under the coaxing and encouraging care of veteran Kim Jolly on and off the track, all 3 drivers had a win each for the night. Z. Mogg winning 2 races on his debut meeting and one of the wins coming from his very first official race. Congratulation Zane!!
