WOW!! What a huge weekend at Carnarvon Speedway was had by all.
Wednesday night saw club members doing last minute preparations for the pending WASCF Super Sedan 2009 State Title.
Thursday the 18 visiting drivers and crew started to pull into town for their compulsory scrutineering on their cars and safety gear, before practising on the track from 4-6pm.
Then a Meet & Greet the drivers plus a Calcutta was held up at the well decorated club house. Many thanks to Ted Schultz for his professional auctioning skills that raised a very healthy kitty on the night.
But the toast of the night was to the folks that provided us with the scrumptious Surf & Turf meal that had everyone commenting about.
Local assorted seafood that was donated was prepared in a variety of ways, to which one driver said, "Even if I don't have a very good weekend racing, at least I've had the best Calcutta feed ever."
Well, that driver was in fact Kodee Brown from Broome and he did go on to have an excellent weekend.
He is now the new WASCF Super Sedan Title holder, taking it from last years winner, Robbie Bawdon from Kalgoorlie and Gary (Dusty) Higgs in third place.
Fourth place getter, Murray Wellstead, amazingly drove the race with a broken wrist. This was a previous injury which re-broke after he was involved in a pile up only 1 and a half laps in the 35 lap feature.
Friday night racing saw local hopes, the Jackson brothers at opposite ends of the points table.
#41 Blake Jackson did have a new engine under the bonnet, however the car was still not handling well.
Saturday had him in the shed replacing the steering box and driving much better on the second night.
Unfortunately he had to retire from the A main on lap 13 due to a water leak from a hose which was spraying into his visor.
So he parked on the infield for the remainder of the race, saving his new engine from overheating.
Brother Travis #17 had a great first night, collecting 2 wins and a third on to his points tally.
Not so lucky in his 4th heat on Saturday night and he started from the middle of the pack of 16 on the grid in the final.
Sadly he too had to retire as a contender on lap 15 after his Chev lost power, possibly a problem with the magnetto.
The race continued on and had a few more restarts, which could of easily disadvantaged the leader, Kodee Brown as he had opened the gap between the rest of the field.
However, the young driver was able hang on and increase his lead each time from the more experienced racers and took out the well deserved win.
This was Brown's first season in the Supers ranks.
The support races were very exciting too and certainly kept the crowd jeered up.
The Juniors again put on a great show and reaching speeds of up to 74 klmph, which is very impressive as the Street Stocks best time was only another 3 klmph difference.
Kim Jolly in his Modified hit 82 klmph and Burkie Holla in the Sprintcars travelling at a whooping 114 klmph.
The new transponder system is working a treat by giving us instant results of speed, times, placings, average's and points totals.
Congratulations to the Raffle winners, 1st, Angela Lyall (purple D75) 2nd, Kylie Tonkin (Green D89) 3rd, Melissa Burnett (Green D6).
Many many thanks to all our sponsors, volunteers, officials and drivers for making it a very successful weekend.
